Urea breath testing is a quick, non-invasive diagnostic procedure that detects active Helicobacter pylori bacteria infection in your stomach.

H. pylori Breath Test Preparation:

Do not eat or drink ANYTHING for 1 hour prior to the test.

Do not take antibiotics, antimicrobials, bismuth preparations, proton pump inhibitors, or potassium competitive acid blockers for TWO weeks prior testing as they may influence the results of the breath test. If you are taking any of these medications, please have a discussion with your doctor.

Procedure:

Patient holds their breath for 5 seconds and exhales into a baseline sample bag.

Patient drinks a small amount of citrica solution, waits 15 minutes, and once again holds their breath for 5 seconds and exhales into a sample bag.
